“One of the true tests of leadership is the ability to recognize a problem before it becomes an emergency.”

Virginia Department of Emergency Management
The Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) is a state agency that works closely with local government emergency managers, other state agencies, voluntary organizations and federal agencies such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to ensure a comprehensive, efficient and effective response to emergencies and disasters throughout Virginia. Please visit their website to see all of the programs that VDEM has to offer.
VDEM meets, at a minimum, on a quarterly basis with Eastern Shore emergency managers to discuss emerging issues that affect our localities. They assist Accomack with all aspects of emergency response - mitigation, planning, recovery, and response. They also manage FEMA grants that Accomack receives.
